When I try to convince my friends to get an HDTV instead of regular TV, they don't seem to get it. They always insist that there's no remarkable difference between the HDTV and regular TV. I feel saddened that they don't realize the difference and spend a great deal of my time to convince them otherwise. Happily however, after making my points about the difference, they are now convinced.
Below are two of the most important differences between HDTV and normal TV:
Higher aspect ratio: If you know much about TV, you will know that the aspect ratio is what refers to that screen shape on the TV. The standard in most of the TVs is 4.3. This is what gives us that squarish shape that's normal with most regular TVs. This is obviously too low and won't give you very good picture quality. But an aspect ratio that we call high definition is broadcast in an aspect ratio of 16.9. That's why HDTV is far more powerful than regular TV. It's even incredible to wonder what the difference between regular TV and HDTV is when it's obvious that the HDTV broadcasts 6 times much more sharper picture than normal broadcast.
Better sound quality: Because all the HDTV out there are broadcast with Dolby Digital Standard, this helps to give it the incredibly powerful sound quality that a normal TV can't even come close to. With the right surround speakers, you get the feelings that you are really there and part of the action. Many say they get the real feel of either being part of the action or being in the movies when watching their HDTV. They don't get this feeling when watching a regular TV.
With these two differences, it's clear that the HDTV is far more superior than regular TV in terms of picture and sound quality. And these two are obviously the most important things that we look out for when viewing our favorite movies or sports.
